Record hot weather that swept across Europe in June caused approximately 1.5 billion US dollars in damage to the UK economy.

Modern.az reports, citing Bloomberg agency.

According to researchers, June 2026 was the hottest June in Europe since meteorological observations began.

It is reported that the extreme heatwave caused approximately 2.7 thousand additional deaths in England and Wales alone.

High temperatures also negatively affected labor productivity. During the week starting June 22, UK residents worked on average about 30 minutes less than usual. The most significant reduction in working hours was recorded among individuals engaged in physical labor or constantly working in hot conditions, including construction and agricultural workers. 3.6 percent of the study participants did not go to work at all during that period.
