According to a recent poll in the US, only one-third of Americans support a war with Iran, and the majority of respondents believe that President Donald Trump has not clearly explained the objectives of this conflict.
Modern.az reports that according to the results of a Reuters and Ipsos International Services poll conducted from July 24-26, support for a war with Iran has fallen to its lowest level during the five-month conflict.
69 percent of poll participants, including 40 percent of Republicans, stated that Donald Trump has not sufficiently clearly explained the objectives of US military intervention in Iran.
It is noted that Trump has cited helping the Iranian people change the regime, destroying the country's ballistic missile potential, and preventing Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons as the objectives of the conflict.
White House Deputy Press Secretary Olivia Wells, however, stated that Trump will not make his decisions based on "volatile public opinion polls." According to her, the US president is determined to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.
"The most important thing for the American people is to have a commander-in-chief who takes courageous steps to ensure their security," Wells emphasized.
The poll also showed that Trump's approval rating rose from 34 percent at the end of June to 37 percent. However, this figure remains one of the lowest since he took office on January 20, 2025.
According to the poll conducted among 1248 US citizens, support for the US and Israel's conflict with Iran, which began on February 28, was below 40 percent. This figure is significantly lower than the level of support in the first months of other wars in which the US has participated in recent decades.
For comparison, it is noted that in the first months of the Iraq war, which began in 2003, approximately 70 percent of Americans supported this war. According to Gallup polls, in the initial phase of the Afghanistan war, which began in 2001, support was approximately 90 percent.
