Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has commented on the threats made by Iran after the ship incident in the Caspian Sea and revealed whether he is concerned about a possible Iranian attack on Ukraine.
Modern.az reports that Zelensky spoke about this in an interview with "Sky News" TV channel.
The President stated that Iran has been acting against Ukraine practically since the first days of the war. According to him, Tehran has provided Russia with "Shahed" unmanned aerial vehicles, their production technologies, and other weapons.
"Iran gave Russia new capabilities and technologies from the first year of the war. In the first year, it supplied thousands of "Shahed" UAVs, and then granted a license for their production," Zelensky said.
The Ukrainian leader noted that the opening of a new front cannot be allowed. At the same time, he emphasized that Iran and North Korea are already practically participating in the war on Russia's side.
"We must be careful and under no circumstances allow a new front to open. But we must be honest - the Iranians and North Koreans have already attacked us," he said.
Zelensky expressed hope that Iran would not further expand its attacks, but noted the importance of being prepared for all scenarios.
"We cannot trust these people. Because without any escalation, Iran has been supplying Russia with weapons since the beginning of the war," the Ukrainian president added.
It should be noted that earlier Iran accused Ukraine of attacking a merchant ship sailing under the Iranian flag in the Caspian Sea. Tehran stated that one sailor was killed and another was injured as a result of the explosion.
The Iranian authorities called the incident an "act of aggression" and declared that they would protect their national security. Following this, the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned Ukraine's chargé d'affaires in Tehran to the ministry.
Later, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, in a phone conversation with European Union foreign policy chief Kaya Kallas and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, stated that Ukraine's attack on the Iranian merchant ship "would not go unanswered."
