Kazem Gharibabadi, Deputy Foreign Minister of Iran for Legal and International Affairs, stated that only Tehran can make the decision regarding the opening and closing of the Strait of Hormuz. Modern.az reports that "Mehr" agency wrote that Gharibabadi responded to US President Donald Trump's statement about his intention to declare the Strait of Hormuz as US territory.

Speaking before his supporters at an election event in Garden City, New York, Trump stated that after Iran's defeat, the US would soon declare the Strait of Hormuz its territory.

Gharibabadi, however, shared on the social network "X" that the strait "cannot be captured by a tweet, an aircraft carrier, an order, or a pre-election speech." He emphasized that Iran is not afraid of threats and displays of force.

In another post, the Iranian diplomat used the phrase "The Strait was Iran's, is Iran's, and will remain Iran's."

According to him, Tehran will continue the blockade of the waterway until Washington accepts its "strategic and heavy defeats."

These statements by the parties were made against the backdrop of the armed conflict between the US and Iran, which has been ongoing for several months.

Control over the Strait of Hormuz remains one of the main sources of tension in the conflict.
