Great Britain reacted harshly to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's humiliating description of the country as an "Islamic republic."

A British government representative called Netanyahu's remarks "completely unacceptable."
"These comments are completely unacceptable and we have conveyed our position to the Israeli government," a government spokesperson said.
It should be noted that earlier, Israeli government spokesman David Mencer tried to soften Netanyahu's statement in an interview with the BBC.
He stated that the Israeli Prime Minister did not voice this expression as his own opinion, but referred to the words of another politician.
