The US Department of State has informed Congress about the extension of the waiver of assistance restrictions applied to Azerbaijan within the framework of the 907th amendment to the “Freedom Support Act”.
Modern.az reports that the State Department submitted the relevant document to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on July 28 and to the House Foreign Affairs Committee on August 10.
It should be noted that the 907th amendment, adopted in 1992, restricts the US from providing certain assistance to Azerbaijan. Later, in 2001, Congress gave the US president the authority to waive these restrictions.
Using this authority, US presidents annually extend the waiver of restrictions under the 907th amendment and officially inform Congress about it.
