Vladimir Dzhabarov, First Deputy Chairman of the International Affairs Committee of the Federation Council of Russia, commented on Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's statement regarding Armenia's withdrawal from the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO).
Modern.az reports that Dzhabarov stated that instead of waiting to be expelled from the organization, Armenia should make the decision to leave the CSTO itself.
The Russian senator proposed holding a referendum in Armenia on CSTO membership and acting in accordance with the established procedure. Dzhabarov made these remarks after Pashinyan stated that he would be pleased with Armenia's expulsion from the CSTO.
According to the Russian official, Armenia's withdrawal from the CSTO will not increase the country's security. He stated that after such a decision, relations between Moscow and Yerevan will fall to the level of ordinary interstate relations.
Dzhabarov also claimed that Armenia's policy towards membership in the European Union could create economic problems for the country. According to him, this process could force Armenia to choose between the European Union and the Eurasian Economic Union.
