Criminal case opened against Kocharyan and Sargsyan - both taken for investigation

In Armenia, two former presidents of the country - Robert Kocharyan and Serzh Sargsyan - are among the accused in a criminal case related to the embezzlement of state property.

Modern.az reports that the Armenian Prosecutor General's Office has released information about this.

According to the information, the criminal case was initiated on August 24. The charges in the case are not limited to former presidents. Among the accused are Robert Kocharyan's eldest son Sedrak Kocharyan, former Yerevan mayor Gagik Beglaryan, and five other people.

In addition, Andranik Markaryan, who served as prime minister during Kocharyan's presidency and is currently deceased, is also reportedly accused in the case. The Armenian Prosecutor General's Office announced that the criminal case is related to the embezzlement of state property. No additional information was provided regarding specific episodes in the case and the amount of property or funds allegedly embezzled.

It should be noted that Robert Kocharyan was previously accused of exceeding his official powers, particularly legalizing large sums of money and taking bribes.

It is reported that Robert Kocharyan and Serzh Sargsyan are currently being held by the investigative authorities.
