The number of people who have agreed to be organ donors after death in Azerbaijan has exceeded 1600.
This was reported by the Coordination Center for Organ Donation and Transplantation of the Ministry of Health in response to a query from Modern.az.
It was stated that in the first 5 months of 2026 alone, approximately 300 people signed consent forms to donate their organs after death.
According to the information, currently, about 1400 people are registered on the waiting list for organ and tissue transplantation. Among the patients on the waiting list, the most needed organ is the kidney.
"Since the beginning of 2026, a total of about 120 transplantation operations have been performed in the country. More than 50 of these were kidney, about 30 were liver, about 20 were bone marrow, and about 20 were cornea transplantations.
These indicators show that transplantation services in the country are continuously developing and that the work done to strengthen the donor system is yielding results," the official statement noted.
