In the past period of 2026, 54 bodies were recovered from the water by the rescuers of the State Service for Control over Small-Sized Vessels and Water Rescue of the Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES).
This was stated by the MES in response to a query from Modern.az.
It was noted that 73 people were rescued during the beach season, and a total of 79 people were rescued since the beginning of the year.
"Out of the 79 people rescued, 73 were rescued specifically during the beach season. No drowning incidents resulting in death were recorded in the areas supervised by the Service. In addition, a total of 54 bodies were recovered from the water and handed over to the relevant authorities in the past period of the current year."
The agency stated that investigations show that most drowning incidents are caused by using non-beach areas, entering the sea in windy weather or while intoxicated, and leaving children and teenagers unsupervised.
"Especially in the regions, the use of rivers, lakes, irrigation canals, and other water bodies not intended for swimming is also one of the main causes of drowning," the agency noted.
The Ministry recommends that the public, especially parents, only use beaches where rescuers are on duty. In addition, it is particularly emphasized that children should only be accompanied by adults at the beach and not left unsupervised. According to the MES, the safest hours for recreation at beaches are from 09:00 to 20:00. Entering the water after dark is considered dangerous.
