One of the school districts in New York State, USA, is preparing to use a humanoid robot teacher in the classroom for the first time in the country.
Modern.az reports with reference to foreign media that the robot named "Sally" will speak with a Western New York accent and will participate in the lesson process for 11th and 12th grade students in Salamanca high school.
It is reported that the development of the robot cost 57 thousand dollars. This amount is lower than the average annual salary of teachers in New York State.
"Sally" has a human-like appearance. She has chestnut-colored hair and can move her arms and legs. However, the robot does not have the ability to move freely in the classroom.
When students log into the system with their accounts, the robot will recognize them, remember previous communication and lesson information. This will enable an individual approach to each student.
"Sally" will mainly support teachers in programming, robotics and artificial intelligence lessons.
The company Realbotix, which developed the project, is known for producing more human-like "companion robots".
In addition, the school administration specifically emphasized that robots will not replace teachers. According to them, "Sally" is only intended to support the teaching process and will act as an assistant to teachers.
