In January 2026, the air temperature in the country, compared to the climatic norm, was above the norm for 19 days (0.9–8.8 degrees), below the norm for 10 days (0.7–1.9 degrees), and within the norm for 2 days. The average monthly temperature was 6.2 degrees Celsius, which is 1.8 degrees above the climatic norm.

According to him, the maximum deviation from the norm in January was recorded on January 12. On that day, the maximum air temperature was 21 degrees Celsius on the Absheron Peninsula (Sumgayit), and up to 23 degrees Celsius in the regions (Astara). The minimum air temperature was -1.5 degrees Celsius on January 22 in Baku and the Absheron Peninsula (Baku, Mashtagha), and up to -22 degrees Celsius on January 16 in high mountainous areas (Shahdag).
“On some days in January, rainy weather conditions were observed intermittently, sleet and snow fell in various places, and in some areas, precipitation was intense and heavy, characteristic of downpours. Overall, rainy weather conditions were recorded for 25 days across the regions. The highest precipitation, amounting to 271 percent of the monthly norm, fell in the Lankaran–Astara zone (128.2–206.4 mm) and 205 percent of the monthly norm in Baku and the Absheron Peninsula (Bina – 48.1 mm). As a result of the snowfall, the maximum snow cover height reached 116 cm in Lerik,” N. Mahmudov noted.
He also stated that on some days in January, 10 warnings (yellow and orange) were issued in accordance with the color scale due to windy weather conditions. Windy weather conditions were observed for 17 days in Baku and the Absheron Peninsula, and for 20 days in the regions, with the maximum wind speed intensifying to 28 m/s in Baku and the Absheron Peninsula, and up to 26 m/s in the regions.
