For the first time, a separate women's battalion of the Armenian Armed Forces participated in the military parade held today.
Modern.az reports that the parade was held in Republic Square in Yerevan.
Chief of the General Staff of the Armenian Armed Forces Edvard Asryan commanded the parade.
For the first time, the Armenian authorities announced the creation of a women's battalion in the fall of 2020, against the background of the battles in Karabakh. At that time, the Ministry of Defense announced the creation of voluntary women's units.
In May 2023, the Armenian government approved a bill allowing women aged 18-27 to voluntarily join six-month military service. Later, a separate women's battalion of the Armenian Ministry of Defense was created from these volunteers.
The first call for women to military service in the Armenian army began in December 2023.
