Russian President Vladimir Putin sharply criticized Western countries and European political elites.
Modern.az reports that Putin stated during his speech at the plenary session of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum that European elites are trying to involve new countries in geopolitical confrontations.
“European elites are creating such chaos that they are trying to involve more and more countries in it,” he emphasized.
Putin called the “aggressive policy” of the European bureaucracy a short-sighted approach, stating that the West can no longer exert a dominant influence on the global economic system as before.
The Russian president noted that the international trade system is gradually moving away from a Western-centric model.
“The global trade system is no longer Western-centric,” Putin said.
According to him, after Western countries began to lose their advantages in trade, they reduced their interest in common rules.
Putin added that the main culprits for the weakening of the World Trade Organization are the Western countries themselves, which created it.
The Russian leader also emphasized that in recent years, settlements in national currencies have expanded, new transport corridors have emerged, and the global economy is transitioning to a more multipolar model.
He noted that while public debt in the Eurozone rose to 81.7% of GDP, in Russia this figure is 16.4%.
