Ankara has moved the 51st Commando Brigade from Tunceli province in eastern Turkey to Söke, Aydın province.
Modern.az reports, citing local media, that the brigade, where more than 2,000 soldiers serve, is located just 44 kilometers from the Greek island of Samos.
In August, the command of the elite military unit was entrusted to Brigadier General Yaşar Karaoğlu.
The relocation of the brigade reportedly coincides with ongoing disagreements between Turkey and Greece over the demilitarization of islands in the Aegean Sea and maritime borders.
