China has declared a red alert, the highest level in the national warning system, due to the approach of Typhoon "Dolphin" to the country's densely populated eastern coast.
Modern.az reports that according to authorities, more than 1,400 flights have been canceled in Shanghai and surrounding areas.
Hundreds of flights have also been delayed in Zhejiang province. Train services and the operation of more than 200 ferry routes have been suspended in Fujian and Zhejiang provinces.
Nearly 100,000 people have already been evacuated from dangerous areas. Work on offshore platforms has been halted, and construction vessels have been directed to ports.
Meteorologists warn of extremely heavy rainfall and hurricane-force winds. The typhoon is expected to make landfall in Zhejiang or Fujian provinces on Sunday evening or overnight into August 10.
The natural disaster has already affected Okinawa and Taiwan. Flights and ferry services have been canceled in these areas, and power outages have also been recorded.
