President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev sent a letter to the President of the United States of America (USA) Donald Trump.
Modern.az reports that the letter says:
"Dear Mr. President,
One year has passed since the historic Washington Summit, hosted by the United States of America on August 8, 2025, which laid the foundation for peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
A year ago, you took on a responsible historical mission and created a turning point in the establishment of sustainable peace in the South Caucasus, in the normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Thanks to your determination and unwavering will, you managed to completely end the conflict that lasted for three decades, and lay the foundation for a period of reconciliation and mutual partnership for our peoples.
The tripartite Joint Declaration we signed in the White House with your testimony, the Agreement on the establishment of peace and interstate relations initialed between Azerbaijan and Armenia, and the joint appeal adopted regarding the dissolution of the OSCE Minsk Group played a decisive role in ensuring lasting peace and stability in the region, opening a bright page for future sustainable development and mutual cooperation. At the same time, one of the important results of your peacemaking efforts - the TRIPP project - is of great importance in terms of multilateral economic cooperation, development of transport connections and ensuring security in the South Caucasus. I once again express my deep gratitude to you for your strong leadership in promoting the region's peace agenda.
Today, Azerbaijani society is already adapting to living in the new reality and peace environment formed in the region. During the past year, important work has been done in terms of developing relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Restrictions on cargo transportation from Azerbaijan to Armenia were removed, and Azerbaijani oil products, as well as grain and other products from third countries, began to be exported to Armenia through the territory of our country. We witness the real benefits of peace in economic, trade and other fields, and we continue our efforts to further strengthen it and turn it into practical activity, to form an environment of mutual trust.
Dear Mr. President,
The meeting held in Washington in August last year is also of great historical importance in terms of Azerbaijan-US bilateral relations. As a result of that meeting, our interstate relations entered a qualitatively new stage of strategic partnership. 6 months later, Vice President J.D. Vance's visit to Azerbaijan and the signing of the Strategic Partnership Charter covering mutual investment, trade, energy, connections, transport, artificial intelligence, security fields during the visit, as well as high and high-level contacts and agreements reached during the last year are an indicator of the successful path we have covered in a short period of time and the importance you attach to the development of Azerbaijan-US relations.
At the same time, we consider your decision to extend the suspension of the discriminatory 907th amendment to the "Freedom Support Act" as an important step towards restoring historical justice.
We can proudly say that the current level of Azerbaijan-US relations is at the highest peak in the history of 34 years of diplomatic relations. I once again express my gratitude to you personally and on behalf of all the people of Azerbaijan for this great achievement, including your invaluable services in the formation and deepening of our strategic partnership.
We are determined to expand and enrich with new content the relations and strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and the USA based on friendship, mutual trust, respect and support. We look forward to working with you in this direction.
I express my deep respect and reverence to you, and wish you good health, happiness, and constant success in your honorable and responsible activities for the peace, welfare and prosperity of the friendly American people".
