The number of people killed as a result of earthquakes in Venezuela has reached 2,595.
Modern.az reports that this was stated by Delcy Rodriguez, who is acting as the country's interim president, to local media on Friday.
"As of today, the number of dead is 2,595," she said at a press conference.
Rodriguez did not provide exact information on the number of missing persons. According to unofficial information disseminated by the media, the number of missing persons reaches approximately 38,500.
Rodriguez, who is temporarily acting as the president of Venezuela, also denied claims that the government was slow to react to the destruction caused by the two earthquakes.
"This was a natural disaster whose scale we could not even imagine. Although we knew that a seismic event could occur in our country," Rodriguez emphasized.
She added that search and rescue operations are continuing.
"We can still find survivors," she noted.
