Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian called on the Iranian people to participate in the farewell ceremony for the late supreme leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei in a message he published on the social network X.
According to Modern.az, Pezeshkian addressed everyone, including Azerbaijanis, regardless of their ethnic origin and religion:
“Regardless of ethnic origin, religion, views and political position – I call on everyone to participate in the historic ceremony. Let's together demonstrate an unforgettable manifestation of national solidarity and devotion to the supreme ideals of the Islamic Republic.”
It should be noted that the funeral ceremonies of Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei began today. Officials and religious figures from foreign countries are paying their respects to him at the Grand Musalla complex in Tehran.
Khamenei's p, along with the bodies of family members who died with him, was brought to the Grand Musalla early on Friday morning and placed in the main prayer hall before a two-day public farewell ceremony.
High-ranking officials and delegations from more than 30 countries have arrived in Iran to participate in the farewell and funeral ceremonies. These countries include Russia, China, Pakistan, India, Georgia, Cuba, Armenia and others.
According to Iranian officials, 15-20 million people are expected to attend the farewell and funeral ceremonies.
The ceremonies that began today will continue on Saturday and Sunday. During this time, the p will be kept in the Grand Musalla for visitation. On Monday, a funeral procession will be held in Tehran. Then religious ceremonies will be organized in the city of Qom, followed by ceremonies in the cities of Baghdad, Karbala and Najaf. Khamenei's funeral will take place on July 9 in the city of Mashhad.
Iran's late supreme leader died on February 28 during a US-Israeli coalition airstrike on Tehran.
