The number of people killed as a result of the strong earthquake in Kumamoto prefecture on Japan's Kyushu island has reached 28.

Japan's Chief Cabinet Secretary Minoru Kihara stated at a press conference that as of 06:30 local time on Thursday, 28 people have lost their lives as a result of successive earthquakes in the Kyushu region.
Previously, the number of dead was announced to be 18.
It should be noted that on Tuesday, seismologists recorded an earthquake of magnitude 7.1 in Kumamoto prefecture. The underground tremors were felt most strongly in the cities of Uki and Kikava.
