Hungary has once again delayed the start of the next phase of Ukraine's European Union (EU) membership talks.

Modern.az reports that "Financial Times" published information about this.

According to the information, Budapest has postponed the opening of two negotiation clusters related to Ukraine's integration into the single market, as well as economic and social policies.

The consent of all 27 member countries of the alliance is required to open each of the six negotiation clusters for EU membership. Although the European Commission stated that Kyiv has fulfilled the necessary conditions for this stage, Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar opposes Ukraine's accelerated membership.

He believes that Ukraine should not gain a superior position compared to the Western Balkan countries.

At the same time, it is hoped in Brussels that the problem will be resolved through direct political dialogue with Budapest. Ireland, on the other hand, called for the removal of the block on the negotiation process as soon as possible.
