Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu refused to hold a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during his visit to Washington this week.

Modern.az reports that "Haaretz" newspaper published this information, citing sources familiar with the situation.

According to the publication, Zelensky's office initially contacted the Israeli prime minister's office to arrange a meeting with Netanyahu. However, the Israeli side did not respond to this request.

According to a Ukrainian source, on the contrary, the initiative for the meeting initially came from the Netanyahu administration. After the Zelensky side agreed, no response was received from the Israeli side until July 28. Later, Israeli officials stated that the meeting would not take place due to lack of time.

On Tuesday, US President Donald Trump held separate meetings with Netanyahu and Zelensky at the White House.

On the same day, they also attended Senator Lindsey Graham's funeral. "Haaretz" writes that during the ceremony, Zelensky approached Netanyahu and the parties exchanged brief remarks.

The newspaper states that the Netanyahu administration refused to comment on the matter.

The publication reminds that Netanyahu and Zelensky last met in September 2023 within the framework of the UN General Assembly. It is also noted that after the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, Zelensky wanted to visit Israel to demonstrate solidarity, but this request was rejected.
