Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan addressed the first session of the 9th convocation of the National Assembly, calling on deputies to prioritize state interests over political confrontation.
Modern.az reports that the president stated that the activities of the new parliament will be evaluated not only by the number of laws it adopts, but also by their quality, impact on society, and contribution to the country's long-term development.
According to Khachaturyan, citizens expect a mature political approach, responsible legislative activity, and discussions serving the country's interests from the parliament.
The president noted that parliament should be the main political platform where disagreements are transformed into solutions in line with state interests.
“We need a political culture where disagreement does not turn into intolerance, and principledness does not exclude mutual respect,” he emphasized.
Khachaturyan stated that a great responsibility falls on the ruling majority, noting that the strength of the parliamentary majority is measured not only by its powers but also by the responsibilities it bears.
He also touched upon the role of the opposition, stating that professional criticism, alternative proposals, and the oversight function are important elements of democratic governance and serve to improve the quality of public administration.
Finally, the president expressed hope that the 9th convocation of parliament will go down in history as a legislative p that does not prioritize political competition over state responsibility and demonstrates unity on national issues.
