A criminal case has been opened against Turkey's well-known football commentator and former sports referee Erman Toroğlu for his statements about the "Galatasaray" club on television.
Modern.az reports that in the indictment prepared by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, Toroğlu is demanded to be imprisoned for 1 to 3 years under the article of "intentionally spreading false information to the public".
In the case, "Galatasaray" Sports Club and the club's joint-stock company were recognized as victims, and Erman Toroğlu as a suspect.
According to the indictment, the commentator claimed in the program he attended on February 8 that "Galatasaray" chairman Dursun Özbek met with the head of the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) İbrahim Hacıosmanoğlu and discussed certain secret topics. The investigation p believes that Toroğlu tried to form a wrong opinion in society and undermine trust in institutions with claims that are not true and are outside the official statements of state institutions.
The court process will begin in the coming days.
