The Trump administration has demonstrated commitment to Azerbaijan's peace agenda.
According to Modern.az, this was stated by Hikmat Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan – Head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Administration of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, to "The Washington Times" newspaper.
In the publication's article dedicated to peace-building efforts between Azerbaijan and Armenia, steps taken towards the repeal of Amendment 907 in the US Congress, official Baku's relations with Russia, and Azerbaijan-Israel ties, referring to H. Hajiyev, the immediate response of the US President to this peace agenda was noted as a point to be appreciated.
However, H. Hajiyev stated that the existence of Amendment 907 works against peace:
"Both governments - Azerbaijan and Armenia - are working hard to strengthen peace. However, some in Congress are introducing completely unnecessary legislative acts that sow seeds of discrimination".
H. Hajiyev also stated that the Biden-Blinken administration dealt a blow to Azerbaijan-US relations. He noted that the warming US-Azerbaijan relations during Donald Trump's tenure sharply contrast with the approach of the previous administration:
"Unfortunately, there were many misunderstandings with the Biden and Blinken administration, and they caused significant damage to relations".
He recalled that the Biden administration reimposed the restrictions of Article 907 immediately after the Afghanistan mission ended.
H. Hajiyev cited the Trump administration's positive cooperation as an example, recalling that during his first presidency, the administration played a decisive role in delivering Caspian gas to the European market via the Southern Gas Corridor project.
Touching upon Azerbaijan's attempts to establish economic relations with Armenia, H. Hajiyev noted the export of oil products to that country and the conditions created for grain transit to Armenian markets.
"This may seem symbolic, but alongside symbolism, there are truly important geopolitical nuances. We are building peace not only with the Armenian government but also with the Armenian people", - H. Hajiyev stated.
Emphasizing that Azerbaijan is a place of religious tolerance, the Assistant to the President stated that the country is a natural partner for cooperation with the West in an unstable region:
"Jewish, Christian, and Muslim communities have lived side-by-side for centuries in our country. This is our tradition, our identity. We have a stronger resolve for our peace agenda, and we have the full support of the Trump administration".
