The biggest event of 2025 is the peace document initialed between Azerbaijan and Armenia in the USA. Although this document was signed between the two countries, it became a turning point that changed the fate of the South Caucasus as a whole. To put it more figuratively, history is written with silent signatures and sentences that end years of pain. This initialing in America wrote precisely such a history.
The conflict, which lasted for decades, and in fact centuries, entered its final stage at the diplomatic table.
Most importantly, mothers no longer send their sons to death. Now there is military service, not war. Although this difference is expressed in one sentence, thousands of human destinies lie behind it. We can unequivocally state that a real ceasefire regime has been established in the region after the peace agreement. There are no reports of casualties on the front line. This is the most significant psychological shift in the last 30 years.
Naturally, this situation is not accidental. This is the peace reality created by Azerbaijan. Because if Azerbaijan had not liberated its territories from occupation, it would not be possible to talk about peace today. History has repeatedly proven that lasting peace cannot be achieved without the restoration of justice. If there were no peace, casualties would still remain a daily reality today.
The 44-day Patriotic War of 2020 was a decisive stage in this regard. 44 days also changed our political history. It was as a result of that war that diplomacy gained a superior position. The peace document initialed in 2025 is the logical continuation of that process.
This agreement can be compared to the oil agreement, known as the “Contract of the Century”, due to its scale. Just as the oil agreement changed Azerbaijan's economic map, this peace agreement refreshed the political map.
The peace agreement signed in America is an agreement that ended the war. There are similar examples in world history. For instance, the peace documents signed after World War II determined the future of Europe. Therefore, analysts believe that 2025 holds a similar significance for the South Caucasus.
The process transforms the region from a permanent conflict zone into a space of peace. It is no coincidence that international powers are focusing their attention on this document. Because this peace is important not only for the South Caucasus but also for global security. Energy routes, transport corridors, and regional stability are directly dependent on this agreement. In this sense, the Zangazur corridor is in the world's spotlight as the most important factor.
For us, this issue is even more significant because Azerbaijan acts as the victorious party in this process. From military, political, and diplomatic perspectives, this peace document is the real outcome of the balance of power. We can say that this agreement is not limited to 2025; in fact, it is an event of a millennium. The agreement broke the psychology of conflict that had lasted for centuries.
For the people, peace transitioned from an abstract concept to a tangible reality, and our victory, emerging from the trenches, was solidified at the negotiating table. This marks a new stage in our history of statehood. At the foundation of this stage lies the outcome of the 44-day Patriotic War. Undoubtedly, if that war had not occurred, this peace would not exist either.
