The construction of the Kars–Dilucu railway is planned to be completed by the end of 2029. Once the line is operational, trains departing from Azerbaijan will be able to reach Turkey without interruption.
Modern.az reports that this was stated by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan at a joint press conference with his Azerbaijani counterpart Jeyhun Bayramov.
The minister noted that Azerbaijan and Turkey play an important role in the formation of the Middle Corridor. The establishment of the Azerbaijan–Turkey connection via Nakhchivan is of particular importance in terms of the mutual relations of the Turkic world.
“We have a broad vision that will ensure the access of the Turkic world to Turkey, to Europe via Anatolia, and Turkey's access to the Turkic world via the Caspian Sea. An important part of this is the Zangazur corridor, and one of its complementary elements is the Kars–Dilucu railway,” Hakan Fidan said.
According to him, tender procedures for the project were completed some time ago, and construction work is currently underway.
“Hopefully, the Kars–Dilucu railway will be completed by the end of 2029. Thus, trains coming from Azerbaijan will be able to reach Turkey without interruption. This will create an important logistics opportunity for us,” the minister emphasized.
Hakan Fidan stated that work is continuing to expand the existing transport links between Azerbaijan and Turkey.
