The issue of expelling former MP Hayk Sarkisyan from the ruling "Civil Contract" Party of Armenia is being discussed.
Modern.az reports that "Joxovurd" newspaper published information about this.
According to the publication, at the meeting of the party's board, candidates for the local self-government elections to be held in Syunik province were initially to be discussed. However, since the party chairman, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, did not attend the meeting, the issue was postponed.
After that, the meeting participants discussed Hayk Sarkisyan's recent statements and his behavior within the party. It was proposed that he receive another reprimand or be expelled from the party, taking into account his previous disciplinary punishment.
No final decision has been made. It is reported that the issue will be discussed again at one of the next meetings with the participation of Nikol Pashinyan.
In his last interview, Hayk Sarkisyan accused the party leadership of being intolerant of problems in the country, including criticisms related to illegal logging. After this, his relations with his former party comrades became even more strained.
However, Vaagn Aleksanyan, Vice-Speaker of the Armenian Parliament, announced that Sarkisyan's expulsion from the party was not included in the official agenda of the meeting. He also did not rule out that the next disciplinary punishment could result in Sarkisyan's expulsion from the party.
It should be noted that Sarkisyan attended the party's meeting in Tsaghkadzor last Saturday, despite the tension.
