Pillar of the Turkic World Under Fire - Ankara Expected to Act

The topic of Turkey has always been met with special sensitivity in Azerbaijani society and media. This is because the relations between Azerbaijan and Turkey do not fit within the framework of ordinary interstate relations. The relations established between the two countries are based on common history, common culture, common language, common moral values, and most importantly, the brotherhood created by a common destiny.

For many years, the expression "One nation, two states" has been accepted as one of the main pillars of real politics and public relations in both Azerbaijan and Turkey. In Azerbaijani society, Turkey's interests are presented as Azerbaijan's national interests. Turkey's security, regional power, international prestige, and successes are closely monitored and supported in Azerbaijan.

There are numerous examples of this. During the Karabakh war, Turkey's political and moral support to Azerbaijan was highly appreciated by the Azerbaijani people. At the same time, the problems faced by Turkey were also discussed as a national issue in Azerbaijan. International pressures against Turkey, terror threats, political attacks, and regional risks were widely covered in the Azerbaijani media, and these issues were viewed through the eyes of the brotherly country.

Positions contrary to Turkey's state interests have almost never found support in the Azerbaijani media. On the contrary, serious efforts have been made to explain Turkey's position, defend it, and show that it is the rightful party in the international arena. This approach has also become an integral part of public opinion.

If we say that there is no analogue of Azerbaijan-Turkey brotherhood in the whole world, there must be practical results of this. This is exactly how Azerbaijani society views Turkey. Turkey's success is considered Azerbaijan's success. Threats against Turkey cause concern in Azerbaijan. The strengthening of Turkey is considered a strategic advantage for Azerbaijan.

However, against this background, the behavior of certain circles in Turkey raises questions. In recent years, a systematic negative attitude towards Azerbaijan has been felt in some media outlets, in the speeches of some columnists, and in the statements of some political circles. This attitude sometimes manifests itself openly, and sometimes indirectly.

For example, in Barçın Yınanç's article on the Armenian elections and Ankara-Yerevan relations on the T24 portal, Azerbaijan's position is presented as a factor influencing Turkey's decisions, and Ankara-Baku relations become a subject of discussion. The article specifically emphasizes Azerbaijan's role in regional processes and draws attention to the importance of Baku's position in Turkey's Armenia policy.

Of course, every journalist can have a different view. This is also the requirement of democracy. But the problem lies in the general picture that is being tried to be formed against Azerbaijan in certain circles. A picture is created as if Azerbaijan is an obstacle in front of Turkey, as if Ankara cannot move freely in the region, and Baku is the source of all problems.

This approach does not seem accidental. Because it is observed that the same circles have carried out campaigns against Azerbaijan on different topics at different times. One day the issue of Israel is highlighted. Another time, accusations are made through relations with Armenia. Then another topic is found, and Azerbaijan is targeted again.

What is the purpose of these approaches that want to damage Azerbaijan's prestige in Turkish society? This question needs serious consideration. Because it is also clear that the forces that want to weaken Azerbaijan actually want to weaken the Turkey-Azerbaijan strategic alliance.

There is a serious connection between targeting Azerbaijan and targeting Turkey. Because the strategic unity established between Baku and Ankara is today the most successful integration model of the Turkic world. As this model weakens, the cooperation of Turkic states in the region also suffers.

Another striking point is that the same circles do not unequivocally approach the increasing influence of Turkey in Central Asia. When Turkey approaches Kazakhstan, criticisms begin. When Turkey develops relations with Uzbekistan, concern is expressed. The strengthening of the Organization of Turkic States openly irritates certain circles.

There is a larger geopolitical approach here. Forces that are concerned about the idea of integration of the Turkic world try to weaken this process under various pretexts.

Azerbaijan is one of their main targets. Because Azerbaijan is Turkey's closest ally. After the Karabakh victory, the strategic weight of this alliance has increased even more. Energy projects, defense industry cooperation, transport corridors, and regional security issues have further strengthened the Baku-Ankara line.

In such a situation, unfounded accusations, biased comments, and one-sided presentations about Azerbaijan also harm Turkey's own interests.

The most interesting question is, does everyone in Turkey see this situation? Do state institutions, political circles, and responsible persons not observe this tendency? If they do, why is it not prevented?

If it is not prevented, then other possibilities arise. It is possible that some forces are interested in the continuation of this rhetoric. It is possible that the strengthening of Azerbaijan-Turkey relations does not fit into the geopolitical plans of certain circles.

However, one truth remains unchanged. The Azerbaijani people consider Turkey their brother. The Azerbaijani media approaches Turkish issues with sensitivity. Azerbaijani society accepts Turkey's interests as its own interests.

In return for this attitude, conducting biased campaigns against Azerbaijan is neither in line with the spirit of brotherhood nor with the concept of strategic partnership.

The relations between Turkey and Azerbaijan are fraternal relations based on centuries. Whatever the purpose of those who try to damage these relations, their activities cannot benefit Azerbaijan, Turkey, or the Turkic world as a whole. On the contrary, these activities serve the interests of those who oppose the strengthening of the Turkic world.

For this reason, the public in both Azerbaijan and Turkey should be careful against such attempts. Protecting fraternal relations is the common responsibility of both peoples. Azerbaijan has been doing this for years. Turkey should also appreciate this sensitivity more deeply. Because the ties between Baku and Ankara are also one of the main pillars that determine the future of the entire Turkic world.
