Cooperation between Russia and Armenia in the field of railway transport continues, and Moscow fulfills its obligations.
Modern.az reports that Russian Minister of Transport Andrey Nikitin stated this in response to a question about Armenia's possible refusal of partnership with Russia. He said that Yerevan has not formally refused cooperation.
"They constantly make some statements, but at the same time, there is no refusal - we work as we used to," Nikitin said.
The Araks-Nakhchivan border railway and the Gyumri-Akhurik-Turkey border railway of Armenia's railway system have been under the concession management of "South Caucasus Railway," a 100 percent subsidiary of Russian Railways (RZD), since 2008. The contract is for 30 years with an option to extend for another 10 years.
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has recently proposed to the Russian side the full or partial sale of concession rights to a third country acceptable to both Armenia and Russia. He linked this to the removal of obstacles to Armenia's integration into the international transport network.
However, the statement of the Russian side indicates that practical cooperation in the field of railway transport continues.
