From September 7-11, the fourth Climate Week of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and, in parallel, the Baku Climate Action Week were held at the Baku Congress Center, hosted and organized by Azerbaijan.
Modern.az reports that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan (MFA) released information on this matter.
It was stated that a total of 68 events were organized within the week, and nearly 2700 delegates from over 140 countries registered to participate.
In addition to delegations from states, representatives of various international organizations, non-governmental organizations, the private sector, and academic circles also participated in the events.
Within the UNFCCC Climate Week, 8 mandated meetings on various aspects of the international climate agenda arising from the decisions of the Conference of the Parties, as well as events of the COP30 and COP31 presidencies and a series of sessions within the UNFCCC Implementation Forum, were held.
In parallel, within the Baku Climate Action Week, a total of 37 events were organized by Azerbaijan in accordance with the Action Agenda of Azerbaijan's COP29 Presidency, as well as on other topical issues.
Furthermore, in accordance with the relevant mandate adopted at COP30, a consultation was held within the mandate of the "Belém Mission 1.5" Troika regarding the implementation of National Adaptation Plans (NAPs) and Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), with the participation of Azerbaijan, Brazil, Turkey, and Australia, which hold the COP29, COP30, and COP31 presidencies.
It should be noted that the hosting of UNFCCC Climate Weeks is organized on a rotation basis among the UN regional groups.
Of the two UNFCCC Climate Weeks held in 2026, the first was organized in the Republic of Korea in the Asia-Pacific region in April of the current year, and the second was organized in Azerbaijan in the Eastern European region.
