Lithuania is negotiating with the US on the deployment of nuclear weapons on its territory.

Modern.az reports that the Lithuanian Minister of Defense stated this.

Minister Robertas Kaunas told journalists that discussions are ongoing.

It should be noted that these talks are taking place against the backdrop of Washington's steps to reduce its military presence in Europe.

The Lithuanian constitution prohibits the deployment of weapons of mass destruction within its borders, but President Gitanas Nauseda has already considered it possible to amend the basic law, citing existing security risks.

The "Financial Times" reported this week that US officials are negotiating to deploy nuclear warheads and bomber aircraft to NATO's eastern flank. Currently, US nuclear weapons are stored at military facilities in Germany, Belgium, Italy, Turkey, the Netherlands, and Great Britain.
