After talks between representatives of the two countries mediated by Washington, Israel and Lebanon have agreed to observe a ceasefire. This agreement will come into force on condition that the “Hezbollah” movement completely stops its attacks.

Modern.az reports that this was stated in the information of the US State Department.

As a result of talks led by the US, Israel and Lebanon have agreed to a ceasefire. The continuation of the ceasefire depends on the complete cessation of fire by “Hezbollah” and the withdrawal of all armed members of the organization from the area south of the Litani River.

The statement notes that the parties also agreed to create pilot (test) zones where control will be fully exercised by the Lebanese Armed Forces.

The US State Department stated that Israel and Lebanon confirmed that they have no hostile intentions towards each other and committed to continuing direct talks with the aim of strengthening mutual trust, resolving all disputed issues, and working on a comprehensive agreement between the two countries.

According to the Department, Israel and Lebanon agreed “to resume discussions on political and security issues in the week beginning June 22 and to achieve a comprehensive agreement.”

In addition, the US agreed to continue supporting the establishment of contacts between the parties during the transition period.

Lebanon and Israel had reached a ceasefire agreement in April. The Lebanese army did not participate in the conflict with Israel, and military operations were carried out by the “Hezbollah” movement, which was not a party to the ceasefire agreement.
