Moscow plans to legally examine the issue of Armenia's possible suspension of participation in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).

Modern.az reports that this was stated by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Aleksey Overchuk.

According to him, the current EAEU agreement does not provide for clear procedures for withdrawal, freezing of membership, or exclusion of any state from the union. Overchuk noted that Russia will work on this issue from a legal aspect until December.

The Russian official also stated that if Armenia continues its course of rapprochement with the European Union, Moscow may reconsider the financial and political support provided within the framework of the EAEU and in bilateral relations.

“Should we give money to those who will perhaps wage war against us tomorrow?” Overchuk said.

According to him, Russia does not intend to support a country that links its future with the European Union in the previous form.

Previously, Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan agreed to re-discuss the issue of Armenia's membership in the EAEU at the next meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council.
