Russia spent a record amount of money on the war against Ukraine in the first three months of 2026.
Modern.az reports that the German publication "Deutsche Welle" published this information, citing the calculations of German economist Janis Kluge.
According to the information, at the end of January-March 2026, Russia's military expenditures reached a new maximum level - 5.9 trillion rubles. This indicator is equal to 46 percent of the total expenditures of the federal budget, as well as approximately 2.5 percent of Russia's annual projected gross domestic product (GDP).
According to the economist's calculations, military expenditures increased by 30 percent compared to the same period in 2025.
It is noted that the rapid increase in funds allocated to the military sector has further increased the share of defense expenditures in Russia's state finances.
