47 people, including members of parliament and high-ranking officials, have been arrested in Iraq as part of a large-scale anti-corruption operation.

Modern.az reports that, according to local media, civil servants are also among those detained as part of the investigation.

According to the information, during a search of the home of MP Hind Al-Abbasi, law enforcement agencies discovered 57 million dollars in cash, 27 kilograms of gold, and gold jewelry. It is even claimed that gold underwear was found.

The operation is being carried out at the initiative of the government led by Prime Minister Ali al-Zeidi. Security forces are conducting raids in Baghdad and other regions related to corruption and embezzlement of budget funds.

The investigations are also reported to include episodes related to the former deputy oil minister. According to the Iraqi Supreme Judicial Council, approximately 10 million dollars in cash, 3 billion Iraqi dinars, gold jewelry, a large amount of weapons and ammunition, and about 40 real estate properties were confiscated in that case.

Prime Minister Ali al-Zeidi stated that the fight against corruption will continue resolutely, and the investigation may also include new individuals.
