The Support Group for the People of Corsica of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan has assessed the adoption of the constitutional bill providing for the granting of broad autonomy status to Corsica in the French National Assembly as a historic political event.
Modern.az reports that the Support Group for the People of Corsica of the Milli Majlis issued a statement in this regard.
The statement noted that the bill provides for granting the broadest self-governance powers to Corsica, taking into account the island's historical, cultural, social, and geographical characteristics. The document was evaluated as an important political result of the peaceful, democratic, and consistent struggle waged by the people of Corsica for many years.
The Group stated that it highly appreciates the determination, resolve, and adherence to democratic principles demonstrated by the people of Corsica, emphasizing its sincere welcome of this success.
The statement noted that the will shown by the people of Corsica in determining their future once again demonstrates that the legitimate demands of peoples are sooner or later reflected in the political arena. The document stated that the decision of the French National Assembly is not only a legislative act but also an important political achievement of the long-term struggle of the Corsican people.
The Support Group for the People of Corsica of the Milli Majlis also called on the French Senate to demonstrate historical responsibility and support the bill. It was stated that this step would be an expression of respect for the democratic will of the Corsican people.
