The reason for this step by the US is the Kingdom's refusal to allow official Washington's planned "Project Freedom" operation to ensure the safe movement of ships in the Strait of Hormuz. Saudi Arabia has banned US forces from using its military bases and airspace, which are crucial for the operation.
According to American officials, Riyadh's resistance put the White House in a difficult situation and forced President Donald Trump to stop the "Freedom" military operation, which he had started just a few hours earlier, to ensure the safe passage of ships.
Angered by this move, the White House leadership threatened the Kingdom. According to US and Arab officials, Washington announced that if Saudi Arabia does not change its position, the supply of interceptor missiles needed for air defense systems to the Kingdom to repel Iranian missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) will be stopped.
American officials said that even if Saudi Arabia backs down, the damage to relations will not be easily repaired.
