The South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff has warned the public about mines placed by North Korea along the border.
Modern.az reports that, according to information released by Yonhap news agency, the Joint Chiefs of Staff stated that with the approaching season of heavy rains, anti-personnel mines planted by North Korea in the northern part of the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) separating the two countries could be swept into South Korean territory by floodwaters resulting from torrential rains.
The agency advised citizens not to approach objects of unknown origin and to immediately report suspicious items to military authorities or relevant security agencies if discovered.
It should be noted that in recent months, North Korea has intensified fortification works in the border region, creating various obstacles and minefields. Official Seoul states that this creates additional risks in terms of border security.
