The British government has imposed new sanctions against Russian scientists and research institutions involved in the development of Russia's chemical weapons program.
Modern.az reports with reference to the UK Foreign Office that the sanctions cover individuals and entities involved in the development of the Novichok nerve agent used in the 2018 assassination attempt against former Russian spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia in Salisbury, England. As a result of that incident, British citizen Don Sturges, who was accidentally poisoned, lost his life.
The new restrictions also include individuals involved in the development of the Epibatidine toxin, which was reportedly used against Alexei Navalny, a prominent figure in the Russian opposition.
The sanctions cover seven individuals and two research institutes. As part of the restrictions, their assets have been frozen and they have been banned from entering the UK.
