An explosion occurred near the hotel where French President Emmanuel Macron was staying in the Syrian capital, Damascus.
Modern.az reports that Reuters spread information about this, citing a source in the security service.
Macron arrived in the Syrian capital a day earlier as part of an official visit.
The agency's interlocutor stated that improvised explosive devices were activated during the incident. After this, roads were closed, and relevant authorities took security measures.
A witness stated that he heard explosion sounds around the hotel and saw smoke rising into the air.
According to AFP, at least one of the explosions occurred during Emmanuel Macron's negotiations with Syria's transitional president, Ahmed al-Sharaa.
The press service of the Élysée Palace stated that Macron did not hear such a sound while going to meet his Syrian counterpart.
Emmanuel Macron was the first head of state to visit Syria after the fall of the Bashar al-Assad regime. He plans to hold talks with Ahmed al-Sharaa and discuss the issue of Syria's reconstruction.
Macron is accompanied by the heads of French companies. Among them are the energy company TotalEnergies and the shipping and transport company CMA CGM.
