Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) attacked Russia's most powerful oil refinery, the Omsk Oil Refinery, on July 6. This refinery was the last of Russia's largest oil refining enterprises that had not been damaged by drone attacks until now.

Modern.az reports that sources monitoring Russia and Ukraine have released information about this.

Images of the fire at the plant, which has an annual processing capacity of 22 million tons, were shared by monitoring channels.

Omsk region governor Vitaly Khotsenko stated that "enemy UAVs" were shot down over the region, and the consequences of the attack are being clarified.

In addition, Rosaviatsiya for the first time imposed flight restrictions at Omsk airport, located approximately 2.5 thousand kilometers from the Ukrainian border.

According to OSINT channels, the drones targeted the ELOU-AVT-11 primary oil refining unit at the Omsk Oil Refinery, which has an annual capacity of 8.4 million tons. This unit provides approximately 40 percent of the enterprise's total production capacity.

According to eyewitnesses, 7 unmanned aerial vehicles attacked the plant, and none of them were shot down by air defense systems.

According to information, the strike on the Omsk Oil Refinery is considered the longest-range strike among the attacks carried out against Russian oil refining enterprises. It is reported that as a result of these attacks, the volume of oil refining in Russia has fallen to its lowest level since the early 2000s, and a number of regions from Kamchatka Krai to Kaliningrad Oblast have faced fuel shortages.

It is recalled that in October last year, the Tyumen Oil Refinery, located approximately 2 thousand kilometers from the Ukrainian border, and in early 2026, the Ukhta Oil Refinery, located 1.75 thousand kilometers from the border, were also subjected to UAV attacks.

After the strike on the Omsk plant, none of Russia's 10 largest oil refineries have remained untouched by drone attacks this year.

Thus, in May, "Kirishinefteorgsintez" (with a capacity of 21 million tons) located in the Leningrad region and the Ryazan Oil Refinery (17 million tons) were attacked.

In June, "Nizhegorodnefteorgsintez" (16 million tons) owned by "Lukoil" and "Taneko" (12.5 million tons), the largest plant of "Tatneft" in Nizhnekamsk, were targeted by UAV attacks.

The Yaroslavl Oil Refinery (15 million tons), which ranks sixth in Russia by capacity, was attacked in May and hit again on July 6.
