Russia has warned of the economic consequences of Armenia's intention to distance itself from the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).

Modern.az reports that Russian Minister of Economic Development Maxim Reshetnikov stated that the EAEU is not only the main export market for Armenia, but also the primary source of strategically important resources for the country's economy.

According to him, the volume of products exported by Armenia to Russia and other EAEU countries is not critically important. Therefore, Russia can replace goods imported from Armenia with other sources without serious difficulty.

The minister added that the Russian Ministry of Economic Development doubts that natural gas will be offered to Armenia outside the EAEU on equally favorable terms.

Maxim Reshetnikov also touched upon the issue of "South Caucasus Railway", noting that the company did not acquire Armenia's railway infrastructure for free and invested in its development. He emphasized that if the existing agreements are unilaterally reviewed by the Armenian side, there will be no basis for demanding additional payment from Russia.
