Death sentence issued for Bashar al-Assad

A Syrian court has sentenced the country's former president, Bashar al-Assad, to death.

Modern.az reports that this was stated in a report by the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).

The court found the former president guilty of crimes against humanity.

Bashar al-Assad was overthrown in December 2024 and fled to Russia, where he received asylum. The armed opposition seized power and Ahmed al-Shara is leading the country during the transitional period.
