The death toll from a powerful earthquake in Colombia has reached 132.
Modern.az reports that “Caracol” TV channel disseminated information about this, citing updated data from the authorities.
According to the information, another 570 people were injured as a result of the natural disaster. A “red level alert” regime has been declared in 32 cities of the country.
The most severe situation has arisen in the city of Pereira and other areas of the Coffee region, as well as in the departments of Valle del Cauca and Chocó.
Previously, Colombian authorities announced that 111 people had died and 87 were injured as a result of the earthquake.
According to preliminary data, 1,575 residential buildings were damaged as a result of the earthquake, and 61 buildings were completely destroyed. In addition, 18 medical institutions, 52 educational institutions, 18 road sections, and 7 airports were damaged.
It should be recalled that a 7.4 magnitude earthquake occurred in Colombia on the morning of August 10. The epicenter of the earthquake was located in the municipality of San José del Palmar in the Chocó department.
Underground tremors were felt in most of Colombia, as well as in neighboring Venezuela, Ecuador, and Panama.
Colombian authorities declared a nationwide natural disaster and sent rescue units to the most affected areas.
