Russian President Vladimir Putin has personally visited the Kuril Islands for the first time.

Modern.az reports that TASS disseminated information about this.

Previously, the heads of the Russian state and government visited the Kuril Islands a total of five times. Dmitry Medvedev made four of these visits: in 2010 as the President of Russia, and in 2012, 2015, and 2019 as the Prime Minister of Russia.

Putin continued his business trip to Siberia and the Russian Far East with a visit to the Kuril Islands. The head of state was in Ulan-Ude, the capital of Buryatia, on August 10, and in Novosibirsk on August 11. On August 12, he visited the Pacific Fleet's flagship, the guard missile cruiser "Varyag," in South Sakhalin and listened to a report on the progress of military exercises from the fleet commander Viktor Liina.
