The Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) has announced international migration statistics for 2025.
Modern.az reports that, according to official statistics, the number of people who migrated to Turkey in 2025 increased by 25.2 percent compared to the previous year, reaching 393,829 people. Of these, 56.6 percent were men and 43.4 percent were women. Of those who came to Turkey from abroad, 91,952 were Turkish citizens and 301,877 were foreign citizens.
Last year, the number of people who migrated from Turkey to abroad decreased by 5 percent compared to 2024, totaling 403,216 people. Of these individuals, 55.3 percent were men and 44.7 percent were women. Of those who migrated abroad, 155,119 were Turkish citizens and 248,097 were foreign citizens.
Indicators by age groups
Among those who migrated to Turkey in 2025, the largest share was held by the 20-24 age group - 16.3 percent. They were followed by the 25-29 age group with 13.7 percent, and the 30-34 age group with 11.5 percent.
Among those who migrated from Turkey, the largest share belonged to the 25-29 age group with 14.3 percent. The 20-24 age group (12.5 percent) and the 30-34 age group (12 percent) followed.
Cities with the most incoming and outgoing migration
In 2025, Istanbul ranked first in the distribution of arrivals to Turkey by city. 42.2 percent of those who came to the country settled in this city. Antalya (9.1 percent), Ankara (6.7 percent), Izmir (3.1 percent), and Bursa (2.9 percent) followed.
Istanbul also ranked first among those who migrated from Turkey to abroad. 35.4 percent of those who went abroad were from this city. Ankara (8.7 percent), Antalya (6.5 percent), Mersin (4.3 percent), and Izmir (3.7 percent) followed.
Which countries did most of the migration to Turkey come from?
Among foreign citizens who came to Turkey in 2025, citizens of Turkmenistan ranked first - 23.4 percent. They were followed by Azerbaijan (8.3 percent), Uzbekistan (6.9 percent), Egypt (6.1 percent), and Afghanistan (5.8 percent).
Among foreign citizens who migrated from Turkey, citizens of Iraq were in the first place - 15.7 percent. They were followed by Afghanistan (11.2 percent), Russia (7.6 percent), Iran (6.3 percent), and Turkmenistan (5.7 percent).
