Differences of opinion within the political elite in Iran have resurfaced.

Modern.az reports, citing Iranian media, that former president (2013-2021), representative of the reformist wing, Hassan Rouhani, proposed that the issue of whether to continue the war with the US should be determined by the will of the people.

Rouhani stated that the national goals facing the country should first be clearly defined and then presented for public discussion. According to him, if the people want the war to continue, the confrontation can be continued, otherwise the will of the people should be taken into account. This position was effectively interpreted by the IRGC (Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps) as a call for a referendum on the war and a challenge to Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei.

The issue of Hassan Rouhani's arrest has come to the fore. This statement has reignited discussions about disagreements within the Iranian government regarding the continuation of the war and a possible agreement.

It should be noted that the military confrontation between the US and Iran, which began on February 28, is currently at the level of mutual blockade and low-intensity confrontation.
