Special "pocket" type lanes, isolated from the main flow, will be organized for vehicles turning left at the intersection of Tbilisi Avenue with Hasan Aliyev and Shafayat Mehdiyev streets in Baku.
This information was provided to Modern.az by the Azerbaijan Land Transport Agency under the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport.
It was stated that certain shortcomings in the existing traffic organization in that area cause serious congestion during peak hours. Specifically, left-turn maneuvers impede oncoming traffic flows, disrupt the rhythm of movement, and increase accident risks. At the same time, the safety and comfort of pedestrian movement are not fully ensured here.
To fundamentally resolve these problems, changes will be made to the road infrastructure in that area. Specifically, special "pocket" type lanes, isolated from the main flow, will be organized for vehicles turning left. Thanks to this approach, drivers performing turning maneuvers will be separated from the general flow, while vehicles moving straight ahead will be able to continue their journey unimpeded and quickly.
Furthermore, considering the high traffic intensity and uneven flows at the intersection, the unregulated priority traffic rule will be abolished. Instead, new traffic lights will be installed at the intersection to minimize conflict points and ensure traffic sequencing. This will not only increase the intersection's throughput capacity but also maximize safety.
In parallel, regulated pedestrian crossings will be organized and sidewalks will be renovated for the comfort and accessibility of pedestrians.
These comprehensive measures will eliminate congestion at the aforementioned road junction, serving to enhance road safety and the quality of urban mobility.
