The Global South NGO Platform is now considered a partner of the UN Global Alliance for South-South Cooperation.
Modern.az reports that Dima Al-Khatib, Director of the UN Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC), stated this to journalists within the framework of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum held in Baku.
According to her, through the platform, the voice of non-governmental organizations and communities of Global South countries will be heard more widely at the international level.
“These organizations, acting as the voice of communities, will contribute to advancing many global agendas. This includes least developed countries, small island developing states, landlocked countries, and middle-income countries,” she emphasized.
Dima Al-Khatib noted that the presentations and discussions in Baku were productive:
“This is a very important initiative. This step further contributes to Azerbaijan's leadership in South-South and triangular cooperation. Azerbaijan's initiatives in this area are not new, but this platform is particularly important.”
The UNOSSC director added that cooperation will continue, especially within the framework of the Global South and the Global Alliance for Triangular Cooperation.
In response to a question about whether the Global South NGO Platform will become an official partner of the UN Office for South-South Cooperation in the near future, she stated:
“By being a member of the Global Alliance, they already have partner status,” she noted.
